Removable Partial Dentures

What are Removable Partial Dentures?

an older woman with removable partial dentures

A removable partial denture is an artificial tooth appliance used to replace one or several missing teeth and contiguous tissues.  It is attached to remaining teeth in the mouth with metal clasps. These partial dentures are removed by the wearer to allow for ease of cleaning. The base of a removable partial denture is usually made of metal and sometimes acrylic. The gum replacement portion of the partial denture is made from dense, flesh-colored acrylic.  The artificial teeth are USA-made from strong, durable and aesthetic acrylic.

Your partial denture will be designed by Dr. Torres-Melendez or Dr. Spatz to best fit your specific needs. Because these dentures require support of the soft tissue and remaining teeth, a thorough examination will be performed to determine if other dental work is required prior to the fabrication of the removable partial denture.

  • Protect the health of oral tissues and prevent other teeth from drifting into gaps left by missing teeth. When teeth drift, spaces are created where food particles can become trapped, allowing for bacteria growth and periodontal (gum) disease.
  • Restore the comfort of normal chewing, eating, and speech once impaired by tooth loss.
  • Improve your appearance and bolster confidence lost when teeth were missing.
